Expensive Child’s Play: Pedialyte for Hangovers?
Pedialyte, the kids’ rehydration drink, is being swallowed up by adults. The urban myth is that it revives and restores you post work-out and, much more importantly, helps cure hangovers.
In fact even Miley Cyrus has been spotted drinking Pedialyte instead of plain water, further fueling the thirst for this relatively expensive drink. The question is, do adults benefit from drinking it?
So, what, exactly, is Pedialyte and why is it so expensive? It’s an oral rehydration drink comprised of fluid and minerals and is designed specifically for pediatrics. Remember, kids dehydrate when they have a fever and diarrhea and get their electrolytes screwed up much quicker than adults – sometimes with disastrous consequences. So, kids needs a little more help to get hydrated.
When it comes to adults that are sick with diarrhea and for most workouts, water’s great. You can mix it up with sports drinks like Gatorade if you want. But, I simply don’t see how shelling out for Pedialyte will help all that much. And as for hangovers, the cure is yet to be found. But if you discover it, please let me know.
